The price of perfect tan - Photoaging

FotonovecošanāsWhen we age, mimic wrinkles, lines and uneven skin pigmentation are frequent phenomena. Natural aging is a relatively slow process written into our DNA. Unfortunately, effects of the external environment, our lifestyle and general health condition accelerate the aging process and changes in our face can be noticed already at the age of 20. Although it is the flow of time that we tend to blame for this undesired process, the main pretext for early skin changes is something else.

PHOTOAGING is to be blamed for 90% of skin changes we see over time!

Photoaging is a process when collagen starts to degrade prematurely under the influence of UV radiation, while synthesis of new collagen is blocked. Skin becomes drier, first wrinkles form and become deeper with time. Photoaging affects not only the aesthetic appearance of skin, but also its barrier functions, thermal regulation and sensitivity. Marks of this process are clearly seen in the places, which are most frequently affected by UV light – face, lips, hands, neck and décolleté.

People, who live or enjoy long holidays in tropical and subtropical countries and on highlands, spend most of their time indoors (in the office) and then are exposed to intense sunlight for a short period of time, stay or work outdoors for a long time are the most exposed to the sunlight and therefore - photoaging.

Marks of photoaging:

  • “Crow’s feet”, deep wrinkles around eye and the mouth,
  • Lines, that usually visible only when wrinkling up one’s brows, become clearly visible also when you do not frown,
  • Skin pigmentation: freckles, age spots, uneven skin tone,
  • Appearance of skin capillary ensembles on the nose, cheeks and neck,
  • Dry skin and exfoliation,
  • Red, dry, scaly areas of skin (actinic keratosis),
  • Yellowish skin tone.

Only one solution

Photoaging may be slowed down and prevented only when you follow one preventive advice – avoid excessive exposure to UV light!

  • Do not go to tanning salons,
  • Avoid excessive sun tanning and sun tanning from 11AM to 4PM,
  • Always use a sunscreen (at least SPF 20),
  • Wear cowering outfits that protect you from sun.

And again - about UV protection products

Sunblock products do not need to be sticky, hard to apply or unpleasant. Nowadays there are high quality, dermatologically and ophthalmologically tested protection products in the form of sprays, pencils (lips, eyelids) and light lotion, which do not cause disturbing sensations and protect skin much more effectively. Skin needs protection from UV radiation also in cloudy weather. Specialised Anti-Aging cosmetics contains an extra UV protection element, which makes protection an unnoticeable part of daily care routine rather than a tiresome duty.

  • Use SPF 30 protection, or SPF 50, if your skin is too light, if you plan to stay in the sun longer than 20 minutes.
  • Use SPF 50 protection after dermatological or cosmetic procedures.
  • For protection to have effect it should be applied 15-20 minutes before you go into the sun.

The offered protection range is extensive, and medically tested products will provide the safest and the most comfortable protection from UV light.

Removal of consequences

If you have not managed to avoid photoaging and the marks left by the sun make you feel discomfort, your skin condition may be improved.

Different treatment methods can be used after consulting your doctor:

  • Trophic products,
  • Chemical pealing,
  • Dermabrasion and microdermabrasion,
  • Fillers and botulinum toxin injections,
  • Laser procedures.

However, if we remove visual defects, this does not mean that we are protected from them for ever! Aesthetic medical procedures and products allow to correct the consequences of past mistreatment, while responsible Anti-Aging practices help to avoid them in the future. Let’s be beautiful, healthy and responsible for ourselves!
